Tile Victorian Glazed

SKU: FLI-VIC-7515

The classic metro tile has its origins in the early 1900s, when the New York and London underground railways were clad in white, glossy tiles in exactly this format. The style quickly became popular in bathrooms and kitchens and dominated domestic housing around the turn of the century. The term "half-tile" refers to the fact that the 7.5x15 cm format is exactly half of the then-common 15x15 cm tile.

The tile is made from white clay and glazed by hand, so each tile has smooth, fine edges and a glossy surface with subtle variations from tile to tile. This gives the wall a living character and an authentic reference to the original metro tile rather than an industrial, uniform finish.

Victorian Glazed is traditionally laid in a brick bond with a half-tile offset, but also works well laid vertically or in a herringbone pattern. It suits whole rooms, an accent wall, the shower or the wall behind the kitchen counter.
